New single “Your Reflection” by astriid
astriid is back with his newest release titled Your Reflection. Since releasing his last EP Cartlidge, in July 2024, the Third Party co-founder has dropped five singles, with Your Reflection being an obvious standout. Taking into account astriid’s usual Hip-Hop and Hyperpop sound, this new track is definitely a new lane. I got the chance to talk with astriid one-on-one and ask him a couple of questions about the track and his process in creating it.

Interviewer: “The new single is a completely different sound from what we've heard recently from you. Where did this sound come from?”
astriid: “I think it came from a point of uncertainty. I’ve been struggling with yet another identity crisis (in music) and feel like I’m being stretched to create all sorts of different stuff. I have a lot of ideas in my head and even more confusion about how to execute them.”
Interviewer: “Who have you been listening to recently? Any specific inspirations that might have had some influence on this particular track?”
astriid: “I’ve actually been listening to a lot of Petey USA.” He said while laughing. “I think that has something to do with it. The weird synth bass is definitely inspired by As Two People Drift Apart. While Petey inspired me to make this track, I also feel like it’s a natural progression of my artistry. I’m maturing.”
Interviewer: “If you had to come up with a brand-new genre for the new track, what would you call it? Why?”
astriid: “I think I’d call it synthetic pop. It’s almost liminal, like it occupies a weird space in my head because it’s a transitional period for my sound. I plan on polishing this sound and making it hit harder and more personal.”
Interviewer: “What's next for astriid? Anything that you have planned?”
astriid: “I sort of touched on this in the last question, but I’m going to perfect conveying exactly what I feel. This will probably look like very emotional music with clever synth-play and real drums. The cool thing about making music when you’re young is that it changes along with you.”
